There were many things I learnt that have helped me along the way – and I did have some success with Magnum which I will share in the next post.
Here is some advice from Kert when working with horses –
How to walk – Kert says, always stay upright – even if your head is bent. He is making four beats with his feet – heel and toe – has relaxed elbows. It is a precise walk – he is conscious, decided – he keeps his energy together. Without this you have no chance – he says.
The way of walking is not aggressive – but strong, grounded and decided. Always stay within your frame. If you walk differently, the horse will immediately put you to an inferior level. There is no reason to haste – do everything slowly!!!!!
You must be free in your body to move the horse – because if you are holding tension you are radiating this to the horse and the horse cannot be free to go.
And – if something works well – DO NOT REPEAT IT!!!!
Kert talks about ‘the break’ –
The break is so important. It is OUT OF THE BREAK that things happen. Remember to break before you act. Look at ‘it’ with distance.
The break is THE golden key. Decisions can only be taken in the nothingness. The break is free of time and emotions. In the nothingness – destiny can come in. In that nothingness you can observe things so much more. Even if the world is aggressive – it lets you come to harmony.
We worked with a long pole, practising several exercises – grounding, being centered in our body – walking with the pole – being in the nothingness. This is how you go to the horse – balanced and grounded.

Be precise, Kert says – it is about spirit, energy, posture and tools when lungeing.
Don’t WANT anything from the horse – NEVER, EVER! When you WANT contact will break.
You have to do everything to be safe. Just convincing yourself it will be okay is not destiny! Destiny is not delivered as a package! You have to be prepared – you are forced to listen to signs. You have to be creative, active with horse.
Finally – it is a necessity that we have to provide ‘soul’ to the horse – we have to show it with walking, being neutral etc.
Kert’s quotes can sound great – here are some:
We always live with the thoughts that “We are never enough for the horse” – “we are always running behind – wanting something”.
Dominance has nothing to do with “I’m powerful”. Dominance and trust = safety. Dominance is to protect the horse – dominance is taking the horse back to its authenticity. When the horse becomes more authentic, awake and alert – it starts to individualise – it has a chance to find its individual being.
“The problem is not the problem – but are we inferior in front of the problem?”
“We want way too much from horses – but it can be so simple – we need to use our intuition. A horse can be a unicorn with wings or have the leg of the devil – depending on how you approach the horse.
Wild horses are sad – they have a parallel soul in the human – they want a home – want to be connected with a human. A horse needs to be convinced that you are stronger than them – they react on the energy radiating from you – the horse is looking for his soul….
We create a mask to live in our world – not our real self – it is normal to find people who do not like themselves. It is an unconscious struggle at all times! The horse sees this mask. You need to be aware of your layers – leave them at the gate when you go to your horse.
If you want joy in your horse you need it in yourself!!!!!
Trust yourself to be important, strong, not to haste – you are enough. Do not play at being small! You can do it!
The language of communication with the horse is gone. With your horse – you might find things get a bit better – but it is not magic. When you are in the flow you just become part of being with the horse – then it is impossible to make a mistake.
If you are running on the spiral of destiny you can become one. If we stay connected with everything around us – we are one – then we will know what to do with the horse – there will be no guessing – we will just know!

The last two quotes got me hooked – they appealed to that little girl searching for the white pony – and they appealed to my ‘animal communicator’ side. I wanted to ‘be in the flow’.
These quotes were said with such knowing, such assuredness…. such charisma – it made you want so badly what he had!!!
