Part 33 – The Master’s Project – Conversations with Kert

Now I will tell you about ‘The Project’ – but first, after the excitement of the announcement of a full year’s learning, Kert also announced that he would run level 1, 2 and 3 of his shorter courses.  I had already done 1 and 2 – but when friend Patty expressed interest in the courses, I wanted to go with her and do them all!!!  I would also get to spend time with my friends who were starting their one year education at the same time!!!!!!

Poor Doug – he just looked at me despairingly and shook his head!!!  He had taken to calling Kert  ‘God’!!!!   Luckily he was okay with minding the horses. At that time of year they just needed hay put in the paddock.  I also lined up the farrier to tend to hooves while I was away.  The whole time was going to be two and a half months!!!  I was a bit worried about being away for so long, particularly as my mother was elderly – but Doug and Emma would keep an eye on her.

During this time – end of 2010 and 2011, I was in contact with Kert via email – and one day I had a request to ring him….he wanted to talk about a project and wanted my help…

Well it was a great honour that Kert wanted to talk to me – and of course I dutifully made a time for a Skype call.    A time was made – I rang and spoke to one of his assistants first.  Then he came on the line – with his booming voice!!!

It was good to hear him again!!!    We chatted for a bit – talked about the success with Magnum, then he got down to business.

He wanted me to create a website for him where he would put up a podcast – or talk live to people.  He didn’t want any money for it – people would pay a fee to listen to it. I could have money received  if I set it up – and I could ring each fortnight and we would do an interview….

I panicked…  I said I didn’t know enough about those technical details – maybe he was best to set this up with the lady who was his original Australian representative.  He said he would rather me do it – he thought I was very capable that way.

I said I would have to think about it.  And he said I should remember all I learnt – have confidence in myself…

Then we agreed to have another chat in a week……

I was both flattered and frightened – could I really do this???? And interestingly, as I’m typing this, I’m starting to feel anxious……..

Okay, I’ve just had a break – I’m ready to continue…

I then spent time researching the idea – I couldn’t just create a website – I would need the right platform to deliver a reliable podcast, then I would need a set up for pay as you go to listen – or pay for a subscription – maybe an annual fee…

I spent a lot of time on research – days and days at the computer…it was too difficult…

When I next talked to Kert I told him I had spent a lot of time researching the idea – but I was going on a holiday and would be in touch in a few weeks.

I was heading to New Zealand with a couple of friends.  We were going to a place called Erewhon – where they breed Clydesdales!!!  If ever you get a chance, go there!  Here is the link:   Erewhon

The holiday was a great break and gave me a chance to decide what to do about the Kert project – I was going to tell him I couldn’t do it…he needed to call in professionals.
