Over the next few days of the Level 2 course, Kert led us through body awareness exercises, classroom teaching and both lessons and demonstrations in the arena. Much of the focus was on the one year students. They were either in the arena working on moves with horses or Kert was discussing various issues of theirs – emotional issues.
I did, however, have another brief turn in the limelight. Kert was discussing animal healers and communicators – how they aren’t what they say. Please refer to Part 10 – Can Horses Talk?
He knew I did animal communication as on my first trip I had picked up information from a pony that was there and he was interested to know about it. But he turned to me on this day and said “and stop talking to your horses Heather – because it’s bullshit!”. I tried to reply with humour. I said “Can I still sing to them?” He decided that would be okay.
I was quietly devastated and once again felt very small in front of the group…. I actually believed him! I thought maybe it is??? Everything that had happened over all those years… I was wrong – Kert knows the truth – I must be wrong!
During this time Kert worked several times with Cody. Kert had previously said what a disaster this horse was – what can you do – in the normal world, the horse would have to be shot – what would Karen want with a horse like that. There was talk that as a foal he was tied to his mother’s saddle and had to keep up – Kert felt that’s why he would never stand still. No one there wanted to lead him as he was so dangerous.
Again in this particular session it seemed to be one step forward, two steps back. There was more work with the big roller door up and down – and a tarp on the ground. There were so many moments in these sessions where I thought – finally he will just walk calmly with Kert – and sometimes he did…….for a while….
This horse just wasn’t following the pattern that all the other horses had. In fact, I was starting to get bored with it – it was no longer fascinating.
Karen commented at the end of this session, that if she had known what this horse was like, she would have never bought him!
Well! Kert took that as a criticism of his training!! He was furious!!!
He said the problem was with her – and that was why the horse was like it was! He saw it as an attack. Surprisingly, she agreed with him – and said she did attack people in an underhanded way and knew she needed to work on that. I was stunned!
After lunch he had meditated on the situation and said “destiny” said he couldn’t work with Cody any more because of Karen’s attitude!!!!!
At the time I didn’t realise how significant that was in my recovery from thinking Kert knew everything about horses. It didn’t happen right then – as I was too numb to think straight – but little Cody had made an impact!
More was still to come!
