In this third course I saw more brilliance from Kert. He is a master of body language and I feel really demonstrates a lot of what he preaches. The following is from my notes – but to summarise – what I admired is the clearness of his body language – and the obvious focus he had on the horse.
We did many exercises in this course – one was to simulate keeping a horse in the corner of the arena. Kert demonstrates first – with Cecily as the horse. He shows, he is completely in himself – accompanying her – one eye on her. Just RADIATE the energy. Be big – but humble! – he says. Feedback from Cecily – it felt nice – she felt supported – and when Kert left the arena she felt alone.
There is empathy – because he is truly being with the horse. Kert says – stay calm, strong, alert! No rushing – no sharp movement – supportive – a quiet confidence – the energy is radiating.
I can really see Kert’s ‘presence’. There really is something there that I haven’t seen with anyone else. This ‘presence’ seems to be so elusive to us ‘brown world’ people – but I imagine dancers or actors would master this faster than the average person.
There is clarity and preciseness – this is what I have seen when he has worked his magic with horses.
He continues with his teaching:
“Enter the arena grounded, upright – not wanting anything. The horse is in your vision – you want nothing. Be aware, conscious – leave your ‘layers’ outside the arena. It is just you and the horse. You will act and react according to the necessity of the horse – that is – the individual horse in front of you. Be at the maximum of your inner calmness and strength – with humbleness. Communicate on the first level – do not wear your ‘mask’.
We have to be ourselves – our true selves. You are strong, upright, grounded, relaxed. Just be – nothing is important. If you are full of fear/shame – there is no space for the horse. You are the life of the horse.
If the horse picked up “I don’t believe in myself” from you – how would the horse then follow? Tell the horse with your body language, that you guarantee the horse you will take care of it. Be conscious of your ‘shit’. If you are not 100% yourself – you are not ‘being’! You need this to allow the horse to ‘be’.
Touch the horse – radiate your strong, calm energy – you are saying to the horse – “I will look after you – I will lead you”. You are radiating empathy.
Ask the horse to move – you accompany and support the horse. You just BE. The horse can do anything except stop!
Lead the horse by being led from the horse. We have to radiate this from our being! You are like a mentor, father, teacher. THIS IS EMPATHY! Kert leads in the most humble way – he provides the platform to move and the freedom to move. The horse starts to feel how nice it can be to move in the correct way.
Remember – connecting – be empty, friendly; recognise the horse in front of you – anticipate what the horse will do – be precise!!!”
In the next post I will talk more about the exercises – but seeing and listening to Kert like this just adds to my confused mind. Here is brilliant Kert – but where is psycho Kert? Is he just hiding underneath waiting to jump out?
I’m very quiet during this week. I just want to see if I can keep out of trouble – and I want to take in all I can…. I know I will never be back…..
I’m still very shaken by my altercations with Kert – and I’m very, very cold!!!
COMING UP – COLD WINDS AND SHATTERED DREAMS
