At the end of July I was once again heading overseas on a whirlwind trip – first to attend a dog training workshop, a Five Go To Sea Alaska cruise, a week with Monty Gwynne at her property in Canada, and a week on the other side of Canada at a clicker clinic with the Cavalia retirement horses. Phew!!!
First stop was Seattle where two of my Five Go To Sea friends, Justis and Destiny, live. Kay Laurence was holding a dog training workshop in the week before the Five Go To Sea cruise.
I thought this would be a great start to the learning – and it was!! I was so fascinated by what Kay was teaching – the care and attention!! And it was great to watch the dogs. As I observed, I could pick the tense dogs, the excited dogs, the nervous dogs, the confident dogs….. what an eye opener. It was so much fun I was almost wishing I had a dog!!! Not really – I have my hands full with four horses…. and one cat!!
Watching Kay throughout the weekend was really about watching a master trainer. The attention to detail – how each step is thought out – what a gift to both the dog world and the animal training world!!
I have to admit to having a few snoozes in the chair during the course proceedings! I hadn’t quite got over the jet lag….. and I think Seattle put on its hottest weekend for us! We ended each day after the course at the yoghurt shop.
Kay and I were staying at the same hotel – and each day Justis, Destiny and Charlie came to pick us up. After the course we had a few days before the cruise and did some sightseeing around Seattle.
We visited a glassblowing studio and gallery, rode segways around the waterfront area, ate way too much food…. and went to the movies!!!
It was then almost time for the Five Go To Sea cruise to Alaska! But just before that, we did a tour around Pike Place Market.
What an action packed week it had been – thankyou Justis, Destiny and Charlie for being THE best company for the week!!!
Now it was time to embark for the cruise. Oh what were we going to learn? What were we going to see?
